Looking out across the airfield. The 'alert 15' aircraft is just about to be pushed out for a ground run, which is always conducted soon after the aircraft has returned from a over water sortie. Crews are at readiness for 24 hours and typically fly over four hours of training every shift! A sortie rate that I imagine is not equalled anywhere else in the UK military, with the possible exception of UK helo crews in Afghanistan.
