The 'AJ-W' code on the fin of the 617 Sqn marked Tornado is to honour the codes carried by the squadron Lancasters on Operation Chastise - the dams raid in 1943. Unfortunately this is now no longer usually carried, as 617 has adopted the Tornado GR4 fleet system of carrying a standard number that starts at '001' for the first GR1 to go through the GR4/4A upgrade programme.
