C-17A 97-0047 is one of earlier airframes delivered to the USAF. The 437th Airlift Wing at Charleston is the largest operator of the C-17, with four active duty squadrons. The co-located 315th Airlift Wing from the USAF Reserve has another three squadrons, although they all share the same aircraft and is why both airlift wings are marked on the nose.
