On first impression this looks a standard KC-135R/T from the 22nd ARW at McConnell, which are quite common at Mildenhall. Yet a closer look above the cockpit will show the white markings associated with a refuelling receptacle. Of the several hundred KC-135R/T tankers operated by the various commands within the USAF, only eight have the receptacle fitted, enabling them to recieve fuel as well as pass it. These airframes are former special variant C-135 airframes that were fitted as recievers, but were then later converted back to standard tankers, and retain the capability. This aircraft was also a emergency arrival at RAF Mildenhall, having lost an engine whilst inbound. The aircraft was shutdown on the runway whilst the emergency equipment attended.
