569/1626
This Spitfire XIV is on the UK civil register as G-SPIT, although, like all UK registered warbirds, is exempt from showing its civil registration if the operator wishes. It was actually built as MV293, but carries the markings of MV268, an aircraft flown by the famous James "Johnnie" Johnson, the highest scoring allied ace on the Western front, and who remained with the RAF until 1966. The aircraft is marked with the pilots initals, rather than standard squadron codes, which was a privilege that senior wing and station commanders were allowed at the time.
