The two Typhoons of 'Zircon' flight are operated by 17(R) Sqn, the Typhoon Trials and Evaluation unit, which has squadron status although in reality it is just a flight. Both aircraft were actually carrying markings for 'The Flying Canopeners' of 6 Sqn, the latest RAF Typhoon unit to form and which is actually based at RAF Leuchars (until it's closed!) in Fife, Scotland. Why these markings were applied isn't known as ZJ946/EH only flew with 6 Sqn for a short time last year, and ZJ947/EI never even left RAF Coningsby. Maybe they have a large number of these transfers laying around and have plenty to spare...
